DEPARTNMENT CONVENTION INFO....
The Department of Kansas presents
TRISH WARD National President 2024-2025
To the American Legion Auxiliary / American Legion Family Department of Kansas,
Thank you all for your support, kindness, and friendship as we welcomed the American Legion Family across the country to Wichita, Kansas for the National President’s Homecoming, September 26-28, 2024. We had great weather, great fellowship and lots of fun! Our guests arrived to smiles and greetings from the Kansas team and then things really got rolling. Eisenhower Library, great chicken at Legacy Kansas, shopping…the Aviation Museum and a fabulous western-themed dinner at Exploration Place. The photo booth was the highlight of the evening only to be outdone by the beautiful Keeper of the Plains lit up in all his splendor. All thanks to our amazing members who brought their best for our guests. Thank you does not seem like enough for all the effort…all the way around. Special thanks to the core team…Chair of the Steering Committee Tracy Kinnick and Vice Chair Jeanne Haas…along with the whole crew…bus captains, greeters, helpers and our awesome ALA members who were ready and willing to do whatever was needed every step of the way. Together we will “Lead the Way” to excellence on behalf of our members and those we serve. My deep thanks and gratitude to everyone who played a role…big or small and who set a bar of excellence for our beloved Kansas. I will never forget our time together and I am so proud to be a member of this organization and our awesome department.

President,

The American Legion Auxiliary has seen in recent years that small-town rural environments are struggling, leadership capacity is dwindling, membership is aging and churning, and infrastructure is weakening.
These reasons related to our membership have led Ward to an ALA national focus on helping reinvigorate our organization through membership — from the ground up. Ward is visiting ALA departments (states) during her term as national president to share a content enablement experience to help departments help their units succeed.

My theme this year is Ride the Tide for Veterans, make each wave count. If you have ever watched the
waves hit the beach you notice that they arrive in various sizes, some are big, or small, they hit the beach
softly, or they crash onto the beach. In this organization, we have highs and lows.
